Grief

Sadness, floods over in an instant

And the memories all of a sudden are not so distant

It comes without warning

And lingers until morning

The sun shines bright

And I remember it’s warmth throughout the night

But it takes all my might,

just to see it.

A summer breeze blows

And a calm, peaceful river flows… by

But inside I slowly die.

All this beauty and color around me

I cannot see

It’s there

But I can’t see it even if if I stare

Life is often just unfair

This is grief

Living in the present

But with memories of the past

Your heart holds fast

To what feels so real in the moment

But slipping out of your grasp

It feels like torment

You can grieve an unmet expectation

That now lives only in your imagination

you can grieve the future you thought you’d have but is now buried in the ground

With no clear path ahead to be found

You can grieve a loved one that has passed away

Or a spouse that left and did not stay

Grief doesn’t always accompany the dead

So with that being said

You can grieve over the living

A friend who is no longer believing

In a faith they were ones professing

And the sins they are no longer confessing

You can grieve a person that you thought you knew

Who was as sweet as honeydew

But that person doesn’t exist

And evaporated like the mist

You see, The person is living

But the reality Is not life-giving

The one standing before you

is not who you once knew

Their color is now an undefinable hue

Who are they?

you’re left to sit

With the remnants of a living person

Only in your mind

And who they once were,

you can no longer find.

It makes no sense

And is like looking through a foggy lens.

You try to pick up all the loose ends and broken pieces

As your strength slowly decreases.

So we grieve

because of those who us,

deceive

But We do not grieve as those who have no hope.

Do not go down the slippery slope

Of believing lies about God,

that he sits up in heaven, angry,

shaking his rod.

That he’s not good and faithful,

And doesn’t care about that which is painful

God gave up his one and only son!

So when you feel like you’re coming undone

Remember, your greatest need has already been met.

And your eternal life and future are set.

Your need was and is Christ.

The spotless lamb was sacrificed,

In your place

so that you can freely run the race.

Freed from sin,

that entangles deep within.

The great chasm, separating you from God has been filled.

And your salvation has been sealed.

Romans 8:32 says, “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?”

And

Ephesians 2 “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Oh my friend! God showed that he is good

By being nailed to a cross made of wood

And by being raised up on the third day

So that we wouldn’t be in dismay

But can come boldly to him and Pray

If you are in Christ,

Because… of him sacrificed

God sees you as spotless

And declares you faultless

He reconciled you to the father

And forgave you of all your sin.

Which is now tossed into a bin

And is cast away as far as the East is from the west.

This is Gods best!

That alone, should cause you to rejoice

And know that God is good.

If you have Christ. You have all you need.

And are lacking nothing, indeed.

God sees and knows your pain

And will keep you sane

and anchored through it all.

You will not fall

Pick up your sword

And fight the lies with God’s word.

Renew your mind.

For you will find

what you believe to be true about God

Is a direct way in how you will respond

To circumstances that are not so fond.

There are no shortcuts to grieving.

Do not believe those who are deceiving

Who try to sell you the thought that

You can shop, vacation, drink or eat away your grief.

Falling into this trap, is unbelief

In your grief, you may be thinking

That you are sinking

This is not the life you thought you’d have

But even in ever changing circumstances

God is the same. Unchanging.

He is the anchor that will hold you together.

No matter the ever changing weather.

Let your grief turn you towards Christ.

Romans 4 says “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Christ is able to sympathize with you indeed.

Let your sorrow be a reminder,

that this earth is not your home.

You are not left alone to roam.

You are created for eternity with Jesus.

Who sees us,

in our weakness and humanity.

And is the one who gives us clarity

when things feel like insanity.

Your home is in heaven.

Where there will be no more tears. And all the years and griefs on earth,

will be all but a memory.

Run to Jesus, who is our refuge and mighty fortress.

“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Says Psalm 91:4.

This is the comfort,

your heart needs at the core.
